Nguyệt Viên Hội
Context
Nguyệt Viên Hội (Moonlight Gathering) is a speculative design project that visualizes the Sunrise Riverside apartment complex in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, as a nocturnal neighborhood to escape extreme daytime heat. In this 2050 scenario, community life thrives between sunset and dawn, anchored by a crucial 6–9 AM sunlight window for health and socialization. This monthly night market festival serves as the cultural heartbeat of the neighborhood, demonstrating how community, food, and rituals adapt to a climate-altered world.
Concept
The concept of a nocturnal lifestyle originated from daily observations at Sunrise Riverside,
where residents already retreat from midday heat and the neighborhood activates after dark.
By grounding this project in real-world challenges like rising temperatures and shifting energy demands,
I imagined a plausible future where urban communities adapt and thrive under the moon rather than the sun.
This speculative world is brought to life through a cohesive visual identity for the Full Moon Night Market,
a monthly community gathering. The deliverables (including a three-part poster series, a local restaurant menu,
vendor flyers, and a neighborhood wayfinding map) merge speculative elements like Vitamin D drinks and
bioluminescent art with the textures, colors, and rhythms of Vietnamese night culture.
